BEING YOUR OWN BEST                 FRIEND

ACTIVITIES

1 Talk sense to yourself

Make a poster of some of the things you can say to yourself to be your own best friend.

2 Changing Your Own Worst Enemy into Your Own Best Friend

Work in small groups to create a role-play of a scenario that demonstrates how to change from being your own worst enemy to being  your own best friend.

Notice the impact this has on the person as well as those around him/her.

3 Changing from being someone else’s enemy to being their best friend

Work in small groups to create a role-play of a scenario that demonstrates how to change from being a worst enemy to someone  else to being a best friend to someone else.

Notice the impact this has on the person as well as those around him/her.

4 Being Your Own ‘Bestie’

Make and illustrate a little booklet;-

“Being Your Own Bestie” or BFF (Best Friends Forever)

Front cover
1.     Body Talk
2.     Breathe
3.     Best friend

5 My ideal best friend

Write a list of qualities that you would like your ideal best friend to have.

(After students have completed this activity put the list away and in a few days/weeks ask them to write a list of their own best qualities or qualities they would like to have – compare the similarities between the 2 lists).

6 Friend or Enemy?

Individual students asked to mime/ act out a situation where they are either being their own best friend or their own worst enemy.

Class guess whether the situation portrays being your own best friend or your own worst enemy.

How can you tell?
(eg facial expression, posture, etc.)

 7 “I know what you’re thinking!!”

In pairs or whole class –

Have a number of different sentence cards, eg.
             1. “It’s not fair, no one ever picks me to do a special job.”
             2. “I can’t wait until school finishes and I go to (favourite place)”

One person pretends to be thinking one of these thoughts – others    guess- “I know what you’re thinking, you’re thinking…..”

DISCUSS – How can you tell the kind of thoughts a person is thinking?

8. WOW, isn’t that interesting !

Discuss the concept ;- Being mean to someone else is just the same as being mean to yourself, and
Being kind to someone else is just the same as being kind to yourself .

Is this true?    How do you know?
                                      Share examples or experiences.
